Isle of Wight Nostalgia - Sandown Battery Gardens - 2

The cliff-top gardens have superb views across the English Channel.

The unusual 'spire' is St. Patrick's R.C. Church.

This towering Cumulonimbus cloud gave a brief spell of hail before the sun returned. Note the 'anvil' - this cloud is often associated with thunder & lightning.

Sandown Pier looks close in this view.

I'm not sure what happened here during the last War. Clearly the brick building was used as a shelter - however I have found no record of the site being used at a searchlight or gun position. Does anyone have any idea if anything was here?
