Isle of Wight Nostalgia - Bonchurch - 5

Bonchurch, Isle of Wight

Bonchurch, Isle of Wight

This memorial grotto situated just to the east of the pond, was commissioned in 1868 in memory of Captain Mark Huish by his wife Margaret. Captain Huish was involved in railway construction after a military career and built houses in Mitchell Avenue in nearby Ventnor. He also initiated the local geological collection. The flags to the left of this photograph are to celebrate the Queen's Jubilee celebrations; the village was decorated in a similar fashion.
